Yesterday was a beautiful day, and I had a great time making more books and shopping in Chicago. I bought the metal letters (above) from Urban Outfitters during afternoon shopping. Before we left for Chicago at noontime and had lunch in the van, we learned how to make the leather covers for the miniature books (below) Since I'm pretty quick with making things, I decided to do two instead of just one. We completed the book after we came back to the studio. I will tell you more about the shopping expedition after I get home, but I wanted to show you what I bought. We stopped at a bookstore that specialized in zines, small press books, and "counter-culture" type publications. I have never been in this type of store, and my mind was spinning like crazy, thinking up many different ideas for what I can do with my own publications. Shown above are various zines that I bought from this cool store. And the next stop was Paper Source. I bought several sheets of printed, marblized, and hand-printed paper. I also bought several sheets of bookcloth of varying colors (under the rolls of bookcloths in photo below). And the last stop we made was at Blick's where I bought rolls of bookcloth, telephone pole stencil, book on printmaking, and that great magazine that Kelly Kilmer wrote about in her blog. After we came back we completed the miniature books, and then I completed the blue jeans book with a pocket. Before I went to bed at midnight, I was cutting up chipboards and paper for the next projects. I really like this book as it has a pocket where I can put in notes, pens, or whatever. A really cool book, indeed!
