      How to use Addtoany to easily offer readers social bookmarking  and RSS subscription options for your wordpress.com blog&nbsp;(posts)   1 11 2007    
 D   OES  a single service designated to handle both social bookmarking and RSS subscription options sound useful?

Addtoany  is an easy way to offer social bookamrking options and RSS subscription options. None of the methods quite work for wordpress.com blogs .

However, here is an easy way to make it work.

To use Addtoany as a social bookmarking service for individual blog posts 

Go to the Addtoany homepage and enter the blog post url. Now choose webpage, as opposed to feed. and click OK. The buttons of representative social bookmarking icons are now configured to bookmark your blog post!

Copy the url from the  address bar. Save it in a Notepad file.

Go back to the Addtoany homepage and copy the Bookmark button. Although you see the drop-sown menu when you hover the mouseover the button,  the menu will not work  in wordpress.  Paste the button under your blog post and link it to the copied url.

And you are done! If you click the button you will be able to bookmark this  post!

How to use Addtoany to offer reader RSS subscription options for your blog 

Go to the Addtoany homepage and enter your blog’s feed url. Now choose Feed, as opposed to webpage and click OK.

All the buttons of representative RSS services are now configured to allow your readers to subscribe to the feed of your blog! Not only that, they also have the option to receive the feed of your blog in their email! 

Copy the url from the address bar. Saveit in a Notepad file.

Now  go back to the Addtoany homepage and copy the button. Paste the button in your sidebar and link it to the url.

And rejoice! No, wait, click on my Addtoany RSS button to see that it works!

Although I should have it in my side bar, I put it here on test basis, as I prefer my feedburner button in the side bar instead. Which reminds me, it is possible to use Addtoany in conjunction with Feedburner. All you need to do is paste the feedburner feed url of your blog in Addtoany and you are done!

 W   EBMASTERS  know it only too well that no matter how well their blog/site is designed, there is a chance that it might look all screwed up  in a certain browser of a certain version in a certain operating system. For examples, different browsers have different ways of rendering HTML  tables and they can be fairly inconsistent in look! Same with CSS, you can’t hope to get a uniform look across different platforms.

To get over the problem, testing your site/blog at as many different platforms is the only way to play safe. And here is a site that makes the job easy for you!

Browsewrshots  creates multiple screenshots of a site/blog as seen in different browsers of different versions in different operating systems!

Here is a list of browsers that they take into account.

Color depth: (per pixel: “Don’t care”, 8 bits, 16 bits, 24 bits and 32 bits), 

Javascipt (”Don’t care”, Enabled, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 and 2.0),

Java  (”Don’t care” or Evabled) and 

Flash (”Don’t care:, Enabled, 6 or 9).

I don’t know about you, but I’d say we are a bit spoilt for choice here!

After your screenshots are ready, you can even see all the screenshots as a slideshow, view actual size and download the images!

CAUTION  
Unless you guessed it already, it takes some time to create the screenshots. So, after entering a url, you can keep on reloading the page or simply bookmark it and reload it after some time.

  Email bits of a webpage instantly using&nbsp;shorttext!   30 10 2007    
 W  HAT  would you do if you wanted to send a part of a webpage to a friend? If you paste the url, you will be sending the whole webpage - and the exact content will not be so obvious.

Well, worry no more!

Shorttext  emails part of a webpage in an instant. First get the  shorttext bookmarklet  in your Firefox browser. Now, whenever you find something interesting  in a webpage, all you have to do is select the text(within 30,000 words)  and click “Create Url”! And a url will be created only for the specific text! Now you will be given the option to bookmark that url at del.icio.us or email it to friends.

You can also link to an online image or video to go with the text, specify where the image/video will be positioned, choose to allow comments (there’s even RSS feed for comments!) and set the url as private.

Please note that the procedure works just fine even if you don’t install the browser add-on, but it is more convenient to do it that way.

And also, you can write any text (rather than copy it from a webpage) and publish a url for it instantly! Hmmm, I wonder why the word micropublishing suddenly popped up in my head? Is it even a word at all?

Bored  will let you draw a picture or write something  and then when you are done it will ask you several questions regarding your drawing or writing. And then finally reveal your identity.
